US bill on Balochistan attack on sovereignty

CHARSADDA, Feb 19: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chief Syed Munawar Hassan has termed the bill in US House of Representatives about Balochistan an attack on sovereignty of the country.

Addressing a public meeting at Municipal Park here on Sunday, he said that his party workers would foil nefarious designs of America. He said that the resolution was provocative and aimed at misguiding people of Balochistan.

JI former chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad, Sirajul Haq, Senator Ibrahim Khan and other leaders also addressed the meeting, which was attended by a large number of people.

Mr Hassan said that people of Balochistan had been ignored and there was great sense of deprivation among them. He said that government had made verbal commitments and announced the so-called packages for the province but did not take practical steps for the welfare of people.

“We have to keep our house in order to foil imperialist designs of America,” he said, adding that government should give due rights to people of Balochistan to remove their grievances.

The JI chief said that Balochistan was at the crossroads and flawed policies of the previous and present governments provided opportunity to the US to exploit the situation.

He expressed concern over extra-judicial killings and disappearance of people. He alleged that thousands of people had gone missing and bullet riddled bodies were found in Balochistan and other parts of the country.

Mr Hassan said that situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Fata and Karachi was also serious. He said that Pakistan People’s Party, Mutahidda Qaumi Movement and Awami National Party were coalition partners but they failed to work out a formula to resolve the crises.

He alleged that MQM had made hostage Karachi and its workers were involved in extortion and kidnapping. On the other hand ANP had started massive corruption in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and national wealth was embezzled, he alleged.

The JI chief demanded formation of an independent election commission, impartial caretaker government and transparent voter lists before conducting general polls in the country.Addressing the meeting, Qazi Hussain Ahmad and Sirajul Haq said that JI would start evenhanded accountability of corrupt elements if it came into power. They said that JI would sweep next general elections and form government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
