A British soldier from 1st Battalion The Coldstream Guards has been killed in southern Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed the soldier was killed by an explosion near Camp Bastion in central Helmand Province on the morning of 8 October 2009.
A spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Lieutenant Colonel David Wakefield, said:
"It is my sad duty to confirm the death of a soldier from the 1st Battalion, The Coldstream Guards here in Helmand Province this morning. He was one of us, one of our own, and we will remember him."
Next of kin have been informed and have asked for a 24 hour period of grace before further details are released.
